The National Economic and Development Authority Eastern Visayas (NEDA VIII) conducted a training-workshop on project development for the technical staff of LGU-Southern Leyte on 19 to 21 February 2018 in Ormoc City. Forty (40) development workers from the various departments of the provincial government participated in the said training.
The hands-on learning session was a combination of lectures, open forum, presentation of sample exercises and workshops/case applications. The topics discussed include project development cycle, preparation, implementation, and monitoring & evaluation.
With the guidance of Chief Economic Development Specialist Ernesto T. Octaviano of the Project Development, Investment Programming and Budgeting Division as a resource person, the participants produced eight (8) capsule proposals on tourism services, swine, native chicken, duck egg, fish cage, feedmill and corn-cassava production, and irrigation projects.
The participants were also provided with electronic copies of the NEDA Advanced Manual on Project Development and the LGU Public-Private Partnership Manual and Financial Models.
Ms. Ida Sy-Monzon, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator of LGU-Southern Leyte, encouraged everyone to be dedicated in the preparation of the proposals because these are necessary inputs to the province’s investment program for the period 2017-2022.
This training is the first in a series of capacity development activities that the NEDA VIII’s Project Development Assistance Center (PDAC) has pipelined. The PDAC was recently reactivated to serve as a one-stop-shop for project development and technical assistance to various stakeholders. NEDA VIII Regional Director Bonifacio G. Uy said that the PDAC aims to capacitate the stakeholders on project development through provision of hands-on trainings and development of training modules, reference materials, case studies and templates.
