The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) VIII started an Online Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) Training for officials and staff of the Province and municipalities of Northern Samar on 19 January 2021.

The training consists of five modules covering the basics of the QGIS system from navigating the software interface to using it for cartographic outputs and map layouting. Participants are expected to have a basic grasp of the QGIS system after multiple sessions spread out across three weeks.

It aims to equip the participants with the necessary technical skills to assist in the enhancement of the Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plan (PDPFP) of Northern Samar and updating of the Local Road Network Development Plan (LRNDP) 2018-2022.

The training was conducted in response to Northern Samar Provincial Governor Edwin Marino C. Ongchuan’s request for NEDA VIII’s technical assistance in the conduct of a customized GIS training for the province.

Earlier, NEDA VIII also conducted a similar training for select staff from the Province of Samar.
